TIFF 2024 is going well, and now fans have reached the halfway mark, here are the films praised by critics.
The Toronto International Film Festival 2024 (aka TIFF 2024) has been running for half a week, allowing critics to see many films in the lineup for the big event. While there have been many dissatisfied film critics at the event, there have also been films that failed to impress according to those critics, as previous TIFF events have proven not all films can be a ‘banger’. Below are the films currently receiving very positive reviews at TIFF 2024 according to the amalgamated site Rotten Tomatoes.
TIFF 2024: Standout Films So Far
- Anora – Directed and written by Sean Baker, Anora explores a romantic relationship shattered by reality within a larger scheme. CGMagazine’s review of Anora states, “It is a film that is sure to get awards at the end of the year, and in my opinion, a Best Actress nomination for Madison is a certainty… It is definitely one of the best films I have seen at TIFF 2024 this year so far.” Anora currently holds a notable 96% on Rotten Tomatoes in this post, from a sample size of 56 reviews.
- We Live in Time – Director John Crowley’s latest venture in the romantic genre has proven to be highly anticipated and successful We Live in Time starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield. CGMagazine’s review calls We Live in Time “A beautiful tale of life creatively told through time jumps, with performances that are devastating yet outstanding.” We Live in Time currently has a rating of 81% on RT, from 16 reviews.
- The Piano Lesson – Directed by Malcolm Washington, The Piano Lesson stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ray Fisher, and John David Washington. Set during the Great Depression, the film follows the Charles family events in the household of Doaker Charles, told through the lens of the family heirloom, the piano. Currently sporting a 100% on RT from 13 reviews, The Piano Lesson seems to be a standout among critics.
