Studio Imugi has given fans a glimpse of their upcoming new title, Bonaparte, which answers the question ‘What if the French Revolution had a Steampunk Gundam?’
Studio Imugi has finally launched their debut strategy simulator, Bonaparte, a tribute to the former Revolutionary’s skill in identifying weaknesses in opposing battle plans, putting players in strong control. My knowledge of the French Revolution comes from two sources: college history courses and the 2006 film Marie Antoinette. This means I know nothing.
However, one thing is for sure—France did not have ‘steampunk Gundam’ as their main power. This is where Bonaparte introduces a paradigm shift to the French Revolution formula. Studio Imugi has also released a trailer to coincide with their announcement, which you can see below.
Bonaparte puts players strongly in the commander’s seat, allowing them not only to make decisions on the battlefield but also to wield the greatest weapon of a politician: diplomacy. The trailer features battle scenes where Céline Bonaparte discusses her loyalty—either to the French people or to the mighty king—adding a crucial statement. What sets this strategy simulator apart is its reliance on advanced machinery to crush French enemies, we’re talking about humanoid Steampunk-shaped vehicles using armaments (similar to Code Geass nightmare frames, or Neon Genesis Evangelion units) to dominate the battlefield. This title allows players to step into the shoes of Céline or César Bonaparte and alter the course of history by siding with famous historical figures (like Marie Antoinette) or taking up arms against them.
